Please note the following changes: The week-end Sexton will work on Saturday from 9:00 AM until 4:00 PM and on Sunday from 7:00 AM until 2:00 PM. Tobacco Road will close on Sunday at 1:45 PM.

The partnership between Thrivent for Lutherans, the Lutheran Congregations in the Low Country and Habitat for Humanity have set out to build another home for a family in need of adequate housing. You can help. Volunteers are needed for each Saturday in March and April. Please contact Pastor Dick Campbell to sign up and to receive contact information.

The Journey meets tonight in the Fellowship Room. Part of the Lutheran Student Movement, this St. Matthew’s ministry is for and with college and grad school aged young adults. The gathering with Pastor Robert and Cheri starts at 7:00 PM. Of course, there will be snacks!


Furman University Chamber Choir: Sunday, March 21, is the 325th birthday of the great Lutheran composer Johann Sebastian Bach. In honor of that occasion, St. Matthew’s will be privileged to host the 25 voice Chamber Choir from Furman University in Greenville, SC. The choir will sing at both services on that day under the direction of Dr. William Thomas. Dr. Charles Thompkins, professor of organ and nationally know concert artist, will accompany the choir and play the liturgy and hymns. Housing is needed for Saturday evening, March 20. If you are willing to host two or more students in your home, please call Sandy Yohman.

6th Annual Golf Tournament to Benefit Respite Care Ministries will be held Monday, March 22 at The Club at Seabrook IslandBrochures and more information is available by calling Laura Stefanelli at 723-1611 Ext. 15 or respitecare@comcast.net


Thanks & Celebrate!  On Sunday, March 28, the Church Council will host a reception to honor three employees who have served the congregation Margaret Peck, Joe Reed and Al Clement.  This will be our opportunity to express gratitude for their service among us. Any questions you have about the reception should be addressed to Suzy Stephens at 723-1611 Ext. 21.

The Afternoon Tea at St. Matthew’s Boutique opens May 28, but it is not too soon to plan your donations. Whether handmade, purchased, or selected from your treasures, your gifts will help The Boutique maintains its reputation (during its limited run) as the finest shop on King Street! All proceeds benefit the excellent programs of the Outreach Learning Center. For more information please contact Nancy Romness or Patsy Saunders.

We will need extra help Easter Sunday morning to carry all the
banners of the church year in procession.  There are eleven banners
to process and men and women are needed to help carry them at
the beginning of each service.  Please contact Melanie Cappelmann

At the congregational meeting the following persons were affirmed as the call committee to identify and recommend a person for the associate pastor’s position: Lanie Alford, Melanie Cappelmann, Robin Collins, Karen Giles (church council), Steve Nichols, Lawrence Thompson, and Pastor Wallace.  If you know a person whom you would recommend please send the name by note to Call Committee and then the church address, or by email to Pr Wallace at rwallace@smlccharleston.org.  Also, please hold this team in your prayers that they will be open to the Holy Spirit’s leading. 

There will be an organizational meeting for the formation of a new
WELCA circle at the home of Joan Drews on Tuesday, March 9th, at 4 P.M. Anyone interested in being a member of an afternoon circle should plan to attend. Please contact Joan.

The Mother’s Lounge is available to use anytime. The Respite Care Library next to the Fellowship Room in the Education Building has a rocking chair and privacy screen. A changing table is located at the back of the stage.

We Care for Our Troops Prayer Wall is now located in the Education Hallway by the Fellowship Room. Thanks to John Burbage for updating this information as a tribute to those serving in the military. Please contact one of our team leaders, Sondra Pfaehler or John Burbage with additions and updates.

The ELCA World Hunger and Disaster Appeal is the emphasis for Lenten devotions at home. The money from the coin boxes will be sent to the
ELCA Disaster Appeal for Haiti Earthquake Relief. Calendars and boxes are available in the Education Hallway. Please return your Lenten offering box on Easter morning.
