Altar Flowers
for June 14, 2009: One altar vase in honor of Frank & Peggy Heinsohn Jr. on their 50th wedding anniversary given by Kathy & Walt, Melissa & Marty and Frank & Joan. One altar vase in memory of Helen & Joe Goodson and Ethel Hockemeyer given by the family.

In lieu of altar flowers, a contribution has been made to the Respite Care Fund
in memory of Betty Cappelmann, given by Chip, Betsy, Sean, Harris & Grace.

The red rose at the baptismal font is given in celebration of the birth of Andrew Harrison, son of Heather & Scott Spann, born May 18, 2009. Proud grandparents are Wayne & Patricia Weart.

If you desire prayer for any reason, our Prayer Partners will receive you in the Chapel after you have communed.

Leading worship and preaching today is The Reverend Ina Hoover. Pastor Hoover is a former associate pastor of Saint Matthew’s.

Next Sunday, June 21, will be Pastor Wallace’s first Sunday with us. Everyone is encouraged to be here to welcome him to Saint Matthew’s and to Charleston.

Rev. Robert Wallace will be installed as Pastor of Saint Matthew’s on Sunday, June 28th, with Bishop Herman Yoos preaching the sermon and officiating. There will be one service at 10:00 am. A reception will follow the service in the Auditorium.

XYZ Single’s Then and Now Lunch is today at the Holiday Inn Riverview restaurant beginning at 12:30. All ladies 55 and over are invited.

XYZ 3rd Quarter “Lunch, Listen & Learn” on Wednesday, July 1: On July 1 we will have a day trip to Walterboro for our quarterly “Lunch, Listen & Learn” program and a tour of the SC Artisan Center. Check the XYZ Board or the June Messenger for information. Cost for motorcoach transportation, the LLL program and tour is $30.00 per person. Providing your own transportation, the cost of the program and tour is $10.00. Make checks payable to Saint Matthew’s Adults and mail to the office c/o Irene Bennett or leave in Irene’s box in the office.

From the Outreach Center: All containers from Afternoon Tea donations are now available for pick up in the “Star Room.” the Sunday School room to the right of the elevator, in the Education Building. We thank you for your help.

The Outreach Food Pantry reopened last Monday. Hours are 9:00-11:00 am, Mondays and Wednesdays. There is a need for grocery bags. If anyone has some hanging around their home pantry, please recycle them to the Center.
Tickets for the
WELCA Semi-Annual Meeting and Luncheon on Wednesday, July 8th will be on sale today between services. Members of Circle 4 will be in the courtyard Sundays through July 5. Cost: $10 per person. Come join us and learn more about Martin Luther and his life in the church. The food for the luncheon will be delicious and there will be live music and door prizes. All members and friends of Saint Matthew’s are invited to attend. Don’t miss this experience with your dear friends and new acquaintances. There is a Mother’s Lounge available to use anytime.
Room 201 in the Education Building located at the top of the steps by the Vanderhorst Street door is now available with rocking chairs and a changing table.

Child Protection: All volunteers (including youth) for VBS need to complete required paperwork to comply with the policy. Forms are available in the Education hallway. Adults only must also complete the Stewards of Children training. The training is available online! Once you begin the online program, you have two weeks to complete it. To sign up for the Stewards of Children online training, contact Debarah Harbuck, Parish Secretary, (723-1611 ext. 16) to get Saint Matthew’s Log in ID and password. Discovery Canyon is Coming to Saint Matthew’s
June 21-25!
The canyon walls are echoing with the sound of faith-filled activities! Preschool children age 3 through children entering 5th grade can register to attend in the Education Hallway. All Church Vacation Bible School Opening Celebration
Sunday, June 21, 9:45 am. The congregation is invited to Discovery Canyon VBS fun Opening Celebration in the Auditorium with brunch, music, Bible story, activities, crafts and puppets.

Monday, June 22 through Thursday, June 25. Sessions run from 9:00 am until noon.

All Church Vacation Bible School Closing Celebration –
Thursday, June 25, 6:00-8:00 pm. The congregation is invited to dinner, closing celebration followed by ice cream!

We need help getting ready for VBS. June 16 – 10:00 am – Education Building clean up and begin decorating classrooms. June 20 – 9:00 -11:00 am – Finish decorating classrooms and decorate Auditorium.

To Tanzania with Love

Help us fill the “Clinic Wall” in the Auditorium with bandaids! We’ll add a bandaid with your name and/or name of a loved one for a donation of any amount. Offering envelopes are available in the Narthex and Education Hallway. All donations will be listed in the program at the dinner and in the bulletin on June 21.
