Altar Flowers for July 26, 2009 - One altar vase in memory of Bones Brinker given by Karen & Katherine Geils. One altar vase in honor of Fred Kinard, Jr. in celebration of his birthday given by the family.

Congratulations to Liane & Brandon Ziel, whose daughter, Elizabeth Alston, is being baptized today. Liza will receive the following gifts as a reminder of this special day: a medallion from Thrivent Financial, a banner from the Women of ELCA, a candle & a napkin.

The red rose is given in celebration of the birth of Jackson McCants Cowart, July 13, 2009, son of Lori & Robbie Cowart. Grandparents are Ron & Dixie McMahan.

XYZ Card & Game Night is tomorrow, July 27, at 7:00 pm in the auditorium. All adults 55 & over are invited to attend.

XYZ Trip September 15 – 21, 2009 – Fall Trip to Ozark Mountains:
We still have openings for St. Matthew’s adults “50” and over. Cost per person: $995.00 double occupancy, $1,497.00 single occupancy, includes deluxe motorcoach transportation, 7 days/6 nights lodging, five dinners, two lunches, breakfast every morning, all tours, taxes & gratuities including the motorcoach driver. Sign up and payment are due by: Monday, August 10, 2009. Make check payable to: St. Matthew’s Adults and mail to the church c/o Irene Bennett, or leave in Irene’s box in the office. Travel insurance is available for $75.00 per person, double occupancy; $94.00 per person, single occupancy.

Next Sunday, August 2, is Little Red Wagon Sunday. Please bring canned meats, vegetables, fruit, grits and pasta.

The Outreach Center GED class has need for tutors for some of their adult students needing remedial help. The class meets on Monday and Wednesday evenings from 5:30 to 8:30 pm. Tutors are needed on either evening from 6:00-7:30 pm. Contact the Outreach Center at 579-0420 for more information.

The Mother’s Lounge has a new location and is avail-able to use anytime. The Respite Care Library next to the Fellowship Room in the Education Building has a rocking chair and privacy screen on Sunday mornings. A changing table is located at the back of the stage.


Planning for Confirmation:
Pastor Wallace would like to meet with parents of youth in Grades 5-8 (entering 5th grade this Fall) to discuss plans for the Confirmation program. Please come to the Auditorium on Sunday, August 2, 9:45AM.

Confirmation Luncheon and Informational Meeting - August 23, 12:30-2:00PM. All youth in Grades 7-8 and parents/families as well as any adults interested in serving on the Confirmation Ministry Team are invited to meet in the Auditorium with food, fellowship and lots of information about this coming year. Pastor Wallace will lead the orientation. Childcare will be provided for siblings following dinner. Please make your luncheon reservations on the Record of Attendance on August 9 and 16.

Are You Interested? Wooden desk chairs are available to purchase for $15 each for the next two weeks.  There is one chair on display in the Education Hallway with additional purchase information.  Additional chairs are stored in several places in the building.  Questions? See Robert Holling.

      Please come to the Auditorium to welcome Sarah Fitch home from a year of serving with the ELCA Young Adults in Global Mission in Slovakia. Sarah will share her mission experiences with pictures and stories.

      Volunteers Needed
      for the Thrivent Builds with Habitat house being constructed in the Brownswood Community on Johns Island - Thrivent Financial members in particular. If you can work any Saturday in July or August (or any day) contact Molly Coffey outreach@seaislandhabitat.org to register and receive directions and scheduling information. If you have questions, contact Pastor Dick Campbell.  This build will mean new life for a Johns Island family!!
